The Nehawu strike at various government hospitals has been largely curtailed by the court judgement that essential staff cannot go on strike. Peter Ntsime, 2nd vice president of the South African Police Union

The SA Police Union will be joining the Nehawu strike as it continues for a second week. The mass action will most likely affect services at courts, hospitals and government offices. The unions are demanding a 10% salary hike, while the government is offering 4.7%. SAPU's Peter Ntsime explains.

The Safety and Security Bargaining Council is today facilitating a conciliation process between members of the South African Police Service and Minister Bheki Cele. This is on a dispute over the incorporation of public service act members into the police act of 1995. Police unions launched the dispute with the employer accusing him of reneging on a 2011 commitment to employ the workers who are mostly admin staff under the police act.

Robbers target police stations

Officers are living in fear, following recent attacks on police stations. Statistics show that 13 police stations were burgled between April 2018 and March 2021, with 78 firearms and 982 rounds of ammunition stolen.

SAPU condemns death of innocent bystander


South African Policing Union (SAPU) says they condemn the death of an innocent bystander, Mthokozisi Ntumba, during student protests at Wits University last week. They also say they are concerned that the four policemen have already been tried and found guilty by the court of public opinion, politicians and the media, without the knowledge of exactly what caused police officers to use rubber bullets and shock grenades, and how the victim got hit.

SAPU says it is unfair
