MEET THE NATIONAL NEGOTIATORS

Barries Barnard 

Joined Saps in 1979. Became a detective in 1981.

Founding member of Sapu in 1993.

Joined Sapu full time in 1995 to establish the Union Post which served as an internal newsletter.

In 2001 I've been appointed as the Provincial Secretary of Sapu Northern Cape.

In 2007 I was transferred to North West. 

In 2009 I was transferred again to Sapu National to lead National Negotiations.

Currently leade the team of Negotiators who are Lesiba Thobakgale as Chief Negotiator, Katlego Seboko and Brenda as National Negotiators.

Lesiba Thobakgale

A National chief Negotiator who leads the team of sapu negotiators on negotiations at the two bargaining councils(SSSBC and PSCBC) where issues affecting SAPU members are being deliberated upon, in order to improve the conditions of service within employment.


He is also SAPU National Spokesperson being the youngest to occupy the position in the history of SAPU also executing a responsibility to represent the position of the organisation on media spaces.

Brenda Mafoko

She was the first Black female to be employed in a very critical environment during 2002 at POP. Which the activist spirit was revived due to challenges in the workplace. Also active as a Unionist from those early years. I capacitated myself with lot of obstacles and challenges on my career path..Defending issues came naturally as I was able to assist colleagues with matters of concern that raise the name of Sapu amongst the rest .

Katlego Seboko

Dedicated Labour Practitioner offering 12

years' experience assisting with collective bargaining, 

including resolving conflicts and mediating. 

Persuasive negotiator, 

talented organizer, and complex problem-solver. 

Facilitates positive and productive interactions 

between workers, leaders, and union representatives. 

Successful background as an academic researcher in socio- economic matters. Articulate and decisive professional with 

respectful and resourceful approach.

Alfred  Tlou

Alfred obtained several labour Relations certificates from DITSELA including, Prosecutors Certificates from University of Pretoria,Project Management from University of North West, Alfred started his labour movement involvement in 1990 when he was appointed as Shopstewards Secretary at Thari Transport,Branch Secretary of Transport and General Workers Union

Joined SAPU as an Organizer at then Head Office Region before amalgamation with Gauteng Office to be current Gauteng Province from 2008 to date, in 2008 while Organizer in Gauteng Providence, Alfred was also appointed as National Negotiator at both SSSBC and PSCBC, in 2018 Alfred was appointed as Acting Provincial Secretary of Gauteng Province until 2020 when he was deployed as Provincial Secretary of Limpopo Province until March 2023. 
Alfred attended several international courses from ILO in various countries,Austria,Italy,Geneva,Switzerland,Holland,New-York and Canada as deployed by SAPU


 He is the current National Organizer.
